Who is Green Built Michigan?
Green Built Michigan, an independent 501 (C)(3), is a voluntary partnership between home builders, industry supports, and sponsors committed to the construction of sustainable, superior-quality homes. For those interested in residential green building, Green Built Michigan is a valuable resource providing residential certification through a third-party verification system and the use of the NAHB Model Green Home Guidelines. Homes built to these guidelines will have higher standards of site management and waste recycling, water efficiency, indoor air quality, energy efficiency, materials, and homeowner education. Learn more about each of these components of a Green Built home.
For both building professionals and homeowners, Green Built Michigan serves as a source of green education. Providing close to 200 education programs on a yearly basis Green Built Michigan strives to educate all builders about the science and practice of building green. In addition, Green Built Michigan works with homeowners interested in learning about green building practices and benefits, and how to hire a green builder. Learn more about the education programs that are currently available.
Green Built Michigan is the officially endorsed green building program of the Michigan Association of Home Builders and the only affiliated program in the state of Michigan for the National Association of Home Builders Green Program.
History of Green Built Michigan
Green Built began as a local organization. Founded in 2000 by the Home & Building Association of Greater Grand Rapids (HBAGGR), it was one of the first (and one of only five home builder association green building programs across the country) such organizations in the country. In 2006, leaders from Green Built recognized the need and potential for expanding their efforts on a statewide basis becoming the first state-wide green building organization. Initially housed in Grand Rapids, Green Built moved its headquarters to Lansing in 2007.
